Brothels & Trains... Skagway

As we continue along on review of our May 2022 Alaska cruise, today is all about Skagway.  Probably my favorite two excursions of the entire trip!

The weather is Skagway was absolutely amazing, you could even say warm!  Yet the scenery was absolutely fabulous.  Alaska had a record amount of snow in 2022, which lead to more snow on the ground in May than normal. Which means we got some amazing views.

Let's start with the White Pass Railway - We did the VIP/Luxury Train and I can't give it enough thumbs up.

Excursion Name: White Pass Scenic Railway Luxury Class

Cruise Line: Princess Cruises
Excursion Port: Skagway, AK Date:  May 2022
Cost:  $329.95/Person Length:  Almost 3 Hours
Cruise Navigator Excursion Rating: A+ Itinerary: Stepped off the cruise ship, and was escorted to the Luxury Cabin on the train, upon completion of the train ride, we were able to step off right at the cruise ship.
Pros: Cons:
LUXURY!
Unlimited Drinks & Well apportioned snack box
All the snow!

Let me say, I wasn't super excited about a 3 hour train ride, especially knowing that I had another train ride in a few days up to Denali...  but this truly impressed me!  The scenery was gorgeous!  The drinks (coffee, soda, alcohol) were all free flowing, and the snack box had a TON of food in it!

I could post pictures from this train ride for hours, but I want you all to take this trip and experience it yourself!  Once we finished our train ride, then we went to town for a bit before our next excursion!  Both of today's excursions came highly recommended from friends who had done this cruise.  They didn't steer us wrong!

Excursion Name: Ghosts & Good Times Girl

Cruise Line: Princess Cruises
Excursion Port: Skagway, AK Date:  May 2022
Cost:  $49.95/Person Length:  2 Hours
Cruise Navigator Excursion Rating: A Itinerary: Met at the cruise ship port, walked approximately 1 - 2 miles during the 2 hour tour, and ended in town at the Red Onion Saloon.
Pros: Cons:
Fun!  Great tour guide/good time girl Approximately 20 - 25 people on the tour, we had a good group, but could see it being a problem with rude people, or loud people talking while the guide was talking.
Great Value for the entertainment
Educational - learned about the gold rush as well as the history of the brothels

Next was the Ghosts & Good Time Girls Walking Tour...  It was hysterical and fun and educational, and FUN!  The girls are from the Red Onion Saloon and talk about the former red light district during the gold rush.  They talk about the good, the bad & the ugly of the women that worked in the brothel back in the day.  You end up after a 2 hour walking tour at the Red Onion Saloon to tour the historical brothel.  At the end of the tour, we grabbed a quick bite at the restaurant/bar at the Red Onion Saloon along with a few t-shirts as well.  It's not every day you can buy a t-shirt from a brothel!  ha!

Our day in Skagway ended with some shopping around town and boarding our beautiful cruise ship to cruise to Glacier Bay the next day.  Skagway was a beautiful day with fun activities.  We'd go back to Skagway without a doubt, and we'd suggest everyone visit Skagway!

Next post we will tackle our last 2 sea days with Glacier Bay scenic touring, before we begin the land portion of our cruise!

Wishing you all happy cruising, or happy planning of your next cruise.

Until we talk again -
